Better Business With Better Internet

At this #NIMRI event, a panel of local officials and hi-speed broadband experts discussed the significance of bringing fiber optics to Aquidneck Island. The Aquidneck Island Broadband Project is initiating speed tests around the Island and raising awareness among the community about fiber optics. This alternative serves as a faster and more efficient system than older broadband networks.

Meet The Panelists

  • Stuart Freiman– Director of Broadband at the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, and Program Director of Broadband Rhode Island
  • Andrew Cohill– President and CEO of Wide Open Networks and Design Nine. He is a broadband architect who has worked with many communities to build out similar successful projects.
  • Matthew Wainwright– Technology Director for the Town of Middletown, 2nd VP on the GMIS International Executive Board, BostonSIM Providence CIO Roundtable co-chair. Also, a key stakeholder in the Aquidneck Island Broadband Project.
  • Paul Carroll– Economic Development Director for the City of Newport and supporter of the Aquidneck Island Broadband Project
  • Ron Corriveau– Vice President of Business Development at COS Systems AB,

In the United States, more than 1,200 communities have fiber optics. Plus, Google is deploying gigabit networks in over a dozen more communities across the nation. The panelist’s engaged the audience by expressing the benefits of fiber optics and encouraging others to support the initiative for better Internet on Aquidneck Island.

Analyzing Analytics, with Google!

#NIMR hosted CEO and Managing Director Jay Murphy of Trionia, Inc to learn how Google Analytics works.

Through the instruction provided by Murphy and NIM, the audience learned how to:

  • Add and use Google Analytics
  • Interpret results from Google Analytics
  • Make solid business decisions from the data

Attendees were asked to think of questions prior to the event about Google Analytics. Also, how to attract more traffic to their business. Murphy’s expertise extends from social media strategy and search engine optimization to website development and analytics.

Meet Jay Murphy

JayMurphy
Jay works with large and mid-sized organizations to successfully convert business imperatives to effective online marketing results by delivering analytics, website development, social media strategy, search engine marketing, search engine optimization, and display advertising all optimized with measurable results.  Additionally, he is the founder of Trionia, Inc., and has worked with GE, Raytheon and Janus Mutual Funds. He previously worked at Sapient Corporation as a director of program management and led projects in a variety of industries including financial services, energy, and higher education. Also, Jay holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Northeastern University and an M.S. in Electric Engineering from Tufts University.  He received a Draper Fellowship to attend Tufts University and took doctoral level coursework at MIT in Aerospace Engineering.

Ed King of 02809 Photography described how Google+ boosted business by 75% as of last month, and how the platform can work for you.

At this NIM media pow-wow, Ed answered questions such as:

Ed explained what works and what doesn’t work within the network. He also explained the benefit of network expansion and how Google+ not only increased his business but improved his overall internet marketing presence.
